Sea and Sand

The village of St Monans in Fife is the location for this zig zag breakwater. I had to wait for high tides and high winds to catch this image.

The elements meant waiting between waves and taking a soaking until this one chance came along. Sometimes it is a game of patience to get the picture you have had in your mind.

Pettico Wick

After the Union in 1707 the duty on brandy increased 7 fold. Smuggling was viewed as a patriotic duty and authorities tended to turn a blind eye.

Pettico Wick is a secluded inlet ideal for dodging excise men. A beautiful walk along the cliffs from St Abbs brings you to this point.

During seal calving season access to this point is restricted

Pittenweem Storm

Pittenweem is a fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife. On calm days it is picture perfect with a tranquil harbour with colourful fishing boats.

During a storm it is transformed into broiling mass of sea water apparently trying to breakdown the harbour wall. There are a number of vantage points to capture the turmoil around the harbour so photographic opportunities are endless. Wrap up warm and enjoy!

Talisker Bay

Talisker Bay on the Isle of Skye has some great photo opportunities, but these rocks against the black volcanic sand are my favourite from that day.

The idea was to call into the famous Talisker distillery at some point but found out it was a 2.5 mile walk from the beach so that plan was abandoned.

Oban Harbour

Oban, "Gateway to the Isles" is a busy port in Argyll and Bute. A short ferry trip to nearby Kerrara Island or a longer trip to Mull and the Small Isles will not disappoint.

April to May and you will be rewarded with opportunities to photograph puffins.Dolphins and whales can be spotted most of the year on tour trips to Iona and Staffa.
